Happy New Year (Work Out Smarter)

Happy New Year! Feliz Ano Nuevo! I hope your year is off to a great start. January is the time of the year when most people get back to the gym. One of the top New Year’s Resolutions is to lose weight, get in shape, or at least get to the gym.

Well, if you’re like me, you don’t want to spend 1 to 3 hours in the gym. In winter driving to the gym in bad weather is less than desirable. And I’ve found that longer workouts don’t always yield greater results. It’s the efficient workouts that produce results. Are you challenging your muscles in different ways? Is your heart rate reaching the desired zones for fat loss? Are you resistance training which burns more calories afterwards than regular cardio?

I used to hop on the treadmill or elliptical. I lost a few pounds, but my body did not change. I would go for an hour and really break up a sweat. Then I switched to Jillian Michael’s DVDs and completed 20-30 minute workouts in my home every day. What I saw was a total body transformation. I saw flat abs, toned legs, arms, and shoulders. I got smaller.

So my New Year’s Workout is starting with 30 Day Shred, then I will complete Ripped in 30. I’ve done them both before and done online research for others who have done them. They work!

30 Day Shred involves 3 circuits ( Strength, Cardio, and Abs) in every circuit. You do each level for 10 days and then switch to the next level.

Check with your doctor before starting any program especially if you have joint problems, etcetera…

I hope you start of this year by making a decision to change your lifestyle, not just hit the gym in January. I also hope you challenge your body and work out more efficiently! You can do this!!! I believe in you.
